Actor-Politician Vijayakanth Passes Away

Vijayakanth, a renowned actor, politician, and founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 71.

He was admitted to Miot Hospital in Chennai for pneumonia and was treated with ventilator support. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Vijayakanth succumbed to his illness in the morning on December 28, 2023.

Vijayakanth, fondly known as ‘Captain,’ was a popular figure in the Tamil film industry and had been a prominent figure in politics for several years. He had been suffering from health issues and had been tested positive for COVID-19 prior to his admission to the hospital.

The DMDK party, which he founded, has been actively involved in politics and has even formed an alliance with the AIADMK and BJP parties to contest in four seats.

Vijayakanth’s death has left a significant void in the party and the Tamil film industry, as he was a prominent figure in both fields.
