Supreme Court of India Rejects NEET-UG 2024 Re-examination Pleas
The NEET-UG 2024 exam will not be re-conducted, as the Supreme Court of India under the supervision of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud declared during its highly anticipated ruling on July 23, 2024. The decision was made in light of over two million students taking the examination, with the court expressing that the credibility of the exam
should not be scrutinized.
Chief Justice Chandrachud, along with two other judges, also stated that there was “no evidence of systemic breach” in the examination that is conducted to select candidates for medical schools. The court’s decision also comes after widespread claims of question paper leak were dismissed by the three-judge bench. Chief Justice Chandrachud added,”The data produced on record is not indicative of the systemic leak of the question paper which would lead to the destruction of the sanctity of the exam.”
Throughout the proceedings, petitions noted that the errors and breaches in the NEET-UG Exam suggest ingrained problems, citing re-examination as the only solution. The bench disagreed with this, however, and resolved that students involved in the alleged leaks considered “tainted” must not be subject to subsequent admission procedures and that appropriate measures be taken against them. The ruling brings closure and clarity to the uncertainty surrounding NEET-UG 2024, allowing students to continue with their admissions process. The court added that students with further grievances could seek recourse through their respective high courts.
